IDEAL - Integrated Development through Empowerment, Advocacy, and Livelihoods
Since 2022, Blossom, together with Viviid Emissions, has created 4 Model Villages in Tirunelveli and Karur districts. They serve as hallmarks for women and children’s empowerment by equipping them with the tools, skills, and knowledge to bring positive changes to their lives and communities. This aim is achieved by adopting a comprehensive educational approach comprising different activities that together contribute to the holistic and integrated development of women and children.
Current Phase: Karur District (April 2025–ongoing) – Naganur & Keelaveliyur Villages
-
At Naganur’s tailoring center, 30 women attend classes six days a week, with progress tracked in personal workbooks. The 6 best students are doing pillow covers and selling them.
-
A second tailoring center will begin shortly in Keelaveliyur.
-
Two Self-Help Groups are producing disinfectant and snacks for the children as a livelihood initiative.
-
There is one assistive education centre in each village providing after-school support for around 60 children each, with teachers assisting in homework and offering nutritious traditional snacks made by the SHGs
-
These children are also part of a Children’s Network (one in each village), which encourages children’s leadership and participation in decision-making.
Completed Phase: Tirunelveli District (2022–2025) – Kurichikulam & Kalakudi Villages
The Tirunelveli phase successfully concluded in March 2025, bringing measurable change in two villages.
Women’s Empowerment and Livelihoods
-
Each village has a self-help group with 50 women in total. They have been trained in mushroom cultivation and disinfectant production, and linked them to government social welfare schemes. They continue with the mushroom cultivation and the disinfectant production, and they have created a catering business, providing them with an income.
-
Free tailoring classes supported 72 women (in 3 batches) with skills for financial independence. Currently, 36 women are generating some income stitching women’s clothes.
-
48 workshops were conducted covering women’s rights and 48 workshops on welfare schemes, and 24 workshops for wellbeing. 40 women attended each workshop.
-
15 women got widow certificates, ration cards, and community certificates through these; they can access government schemes and benefits.
-
30 women have received written Tamil classes in both villages.
Education for Children
-
75 children received free handicraft training and evening tuition in core subjects and general knowledge.
-
48 workshops raised awareness of child rights and self-advocacy, reaching over 120 children.
-
Assistive education classes addressed learning gaps for 176 children between 6 and 17 years old.
-
Communicative English and Tamil classes for 120 students.
-
A Bal Panchayat (Children’s Parliament) was established, giving children experience in democratic participation and leadership.
